Chemical processing applications are many and varied. However for every application, pumps are technically specified to meet specific pressure, flow and chemical compatibility requirements. Frequently the medium to be transferred can be volatile and hazardous; therefore correct material specifications and leak-free performance are paramount. (Refer to Totton Pumps chemical compatibility guide on our downloads page).
Typical applications may include transfer duties (Pumping medium from storage vessel to process point) or re-circulation duties frequently coupled with filtration systems.
Our standard pumps are designed to operate with liquids with viscosities up to 30cp, for higher viscosities and specific gravities above 1.2sg, cropped impeller designs are available by request. (Refer to "High SGs" guide on our downloads page) Pumps installed in these applications are frequently critical to much larger processes and therefore high levels of reliability are a pre-requisite. Due to the sometimes critical nature of chemical pump applications, consideration should be given to the possible installation of both a duty and stand-by pump. Mag-drive pumps are not designed to be run-dry and it is recommended that an electronic protection device is incorporated in the system controls in order to avoid damage to the pump in this event ( For further information refer to "Dry-Running Protection" on our downloads page). Typical examples of Chemical Pump installations include:
